Pastor John L. Evans / Profile of a Great Man On September 1st, 1991 Pastor John Evans and his family was sent here to be a blessing to the city… to minister God’s Word and pastor a new church, called Family Worship Center. Later the name was changed to Great Joy. After fifteen years Pastor Evans believes his season is up here in Muskegon and has agreed to focus fully on his church in Grand Rapids. But, while here in Muskegon, he was a great example of a person. John L. Evans: husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, prophet, teacher, missionary, mentor and Senior Pastor of the Grand Rapids Fresh Manna Prayer Center. However he is not just a Pastor, he wears many hats. He is an outstanding leader in the Muskegon Community and is a recipient of the Community Leaders Award as well as the Beautiful Facility Award. He is a member of the Right to Life of Michigan, a liason for the American Red Cross, and he has been an employer in the Muskegon Community for years, helping to empower people. He is a Muskegon Community Mental Health Partner and has partnership with Muskegon County in hosting the Arms Project: an alcoholic recovery menotoring service. He established the Overcomers Project Mentoring Program, which donated funds to the National Kidney Foundation to help fight kidney disease. He is involved in the Color Me Healthy program, promoting good health in the community. Having a special love for both children and teens, he is the visionary behind the Faye Evans Learning Center, enhancing the learning skills for the next generation. In creating the Teen Steppers, he brought a Revolution in schools in Muskegon County promoting education, no drugs, and no sex before marriage. He is also a visionalry behind Destiny on Wheels, he established the Teen Zone, he is in partnership with Calvin College Pathway to Possibilities and he is a partner with the Youth Advisory Council Community Foundation Teen Ministry. He is the author of “It’s Not My Fault But It Is My Time” foreward by Michael Pitts and Duane VanderKlok. As a leader in the church he is founder of Joseph’s Food Bank, feeding over 400 families and giving away over 126,000 pounds of food yearly. He is a partner with Love In the Name Of Christ and an appointee on the Advisory Board of the Muskegon Community Area Pastors. He is also an affiliate church of Resurrection Life Church under the leadership of Pastor Duane Vanderklok, as well as a member of EIM (Excellence In Ministry) under the leadership of Dr. James Pierce.
